A high-speed variant of the Thunderbolt designed to counter the new German jet and rocket planes, this P-47M - the first ever built - was delivered to the 56th Fighter Group in December 1944 and flown by Capt. Witold "Lanny" Lanowski, who achieved four aerial victories.
